350 members and friends of the Noble Order gathered in Helmond, the Netherlands, to celebrate the 49th Investiture.
On Friday evening, November 21st, the first delegates gathered at Hotel Rubens for a delicious and lively dinner. Old and new friendships were renewed, which is, after all, the goal of the Order: to build a network across Europe and celebrate people for their dedication.
That same afternoon, the one-hundred-and-one-year-old Dr. Ben Janssens was honored for his years of dedication to the Saint Sebastian Guild in Vught (Netherlands). This was a very special moment. Chancellor Bart De Baere and Referendary Paul Altorf of Dutch Brabant had the honor of presenting the decorations of Officer of the Order in the presence of the family and the Guild. On Saturday, the entire group was welcomed at the “city hall,” where Mayor Mr. Potters, Honorary Dean of the Guild and Alderman for Sports Mrs. Van Lierop, Mr. Ron Peters of the organizing St. Catherine Guild Helmond, and the Chancellor welcomed everyone. All attendees were treated to a delicious breakfast buffet, and photo opportunities with government officials, various boards, and attendees were endless.
A colorful procession, attended by a large crowd of locals, then proceeded to the SooS 40 banquet hall, where the Investiture took place.
One hundred people were celebrated for their years of dedication and/or athletic achievements in the tradition of the guilds. Nearly all 27 (!) Referendaries and Assessors from the regions in Europe where the Order operates were also present. Two new Referendaries joined the ranks: Ms. Babeth Donnet (Marie-Elisabeth Daems) for Brabant, Belgium, and Mr. Ivan Baric for Croatia, who was promoted from Assessor for Hungary to full-time. The Investiture proceeded more smoothly than previous editions, thanks to a few minor organizational adjustments. The ceremony was led in an exemplary manner by Secretary Luc Borgions, assisted by Treasurer Monique and the Ladies of Ceremony, Kim, Katelijne, and Margriet. Each member was given a special recognition for their achievements.
Following the Investiture, refreshments were provided and a much-appreciated dance performance by the local Moluccan community, which was very stylish and colorful.
The 49th Investiture was certainly a hit, and many new guilds and associations were present! On to the 50th anniversary year in Antwerp in 2026. Further information will follow in due course. The festivities concluded fittingly with a traditional, thunderous “HORRIDO!!!”
With thanks to the organizing St. Catherine’s Guild and its Head, Ron Peters, the City Council and Mayor of Helmond, and the wonderful team of people on the board of the Noble Order.
